Barbara C. Freeman

Barbara C. Freeman (1906-1999) was an English writer and artist who illustrated several fairy tale book collections. Her illustrations are wonderfully detailed and engaging.

    1. I love the details too! They would definitely have kept me as engaged as a child. I don't mind these as much as the extra cutesy illustrators who make all the main characters into young children, like Jessie Wilcox Smith or Margaret Tarrant. Freeman is child appropriate but these have a "classic" feel to them too.

    1. I have both First Editions of the Andersen and Grimms books illustrated by Barbara C. Freeman. The illustrations are not as definitive of the stories as many others, but they are unmistakably gorgeous,
